What is family cord blood banking?
Family Cord Blood Banking is now available in Australia
Cryosite pioneered private “autologous” cord blood stem cell banking in Australia in 2002, and we have been fully licensed by the TGA to provide this service since this time. “Autologous” meant your child’s cord blood could only be used to treat themselves.
International stem cell research and clinical trials offer the hope of new uses for banked cord blood stem cells in the future, and Cryosite’s scientists are committed to providing our clients with the widest possible uses for their children’s banked stem cells.
In April 2011 Cryosite was proud to announce it had been fully licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to also provide Family Cord Blood Banking services for Australian families. Family banking (also called “directed allogeneic”) means your child’s cord blood could also be used to treat other compatible family members.
What is Family Cord Blood Banking?
“Family Cord Blood Banking” means your child’s cord blood stem cells can be used to treat both themselves and other compatible family members. “Family Cord Blood Banking” represents a significant new era in cord blood banking in Australia and greatly extends the potential uses for your child’s cord blood.
Family Cord Blood Banking and Cryosite
The viability of banked cord blood stem cells and its availability for future potential uses, is largely dependent on the experience of the stem cell cryopreservation scientists and the security of company you choose to bank with. Parents have a choice between several private banks and when deciding, the experience of their chosen cord blood company is an important consideration.
Cryosite was Australia’s first private Cord Blood Bank (2002) and Australia’s first Family Cord Blood Bank (2011). Since commencing operations in 2002, Cryosite has always processed and stored our clients cord blood in our own TGA licensed laboratories, and we only offer services that have been fully licensed by the TGA.
Family Cord Blood Banking costs no more
Cryosite does not charge any additional fees for family cord blood banking.
