In Australia the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is responsible for regulating the manufacture of therapeutic goods which include Blood, Tissues, Cellular Therapies and Cord Blood. TGA performs regular audits of licensed manufacturing facilities. Cryosite’s facility, including its cord blood laboratories and cryogenic storage facilities, are licensed by the TGA for the manufacture, storage and release of autologous cord blood stem cells.

Cord blood is collected from the umbilical cord after the birth of the baby. After the blood has been collected, the blood is placed in the temperature controlled shipping container provided by Cryosite. As soon as possible after the birth of your child, you or your partner must contact Cryosite’s nominated medical courier service to advise that there is a sample awaiting collection. We will provide you with the number when you register with us. The courier is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Your baby’s cord blood sample will then be shipped to our own cord blood stem cell laboratories in Sydney for processing, pathology testing and freezing at the cryogenic temperatures required for the long-term preservation of the cord blood. Your baby’s stem cells are then transferred to vapour phase liquid nitrogen storage in our own cryopreservation facility.
