Our laboratories
Cryosite’s cord blood laboratories and long-term cryogenic storage facility are located in South Granville, in Sydney, and are conveniently located close to the important transport hubs. Cryosite’s facility, including its cord blood laboratories and cryogenic storage facility are fully licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration for the manufacture, storage and release of autologous cord blood stem cells. More on our licensing and accreditation.
Importantly, Cryosite is also independently accredited by Australia’s National Association of Testing Authorities to AS ISO 15189:2009. Cryosite’s regulatory licenses and accreditations provide our clients with evidence of independent audit and acknowledgement of the integrity of our systems.
Processing Laboratories
Cryosite opened its first cord blood laboratory in 2001 and due to the growth in cord blood banking in Australia we relocated to new purpose built laboratories in 2010. At 2,000m2 our new hi tech facility is nearly three times the size of our original site and is designed to meet world’s best practice, including clean rooms to minimise the possibility of contamination when processing cord blood.
Our laboratories are equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment and we maintain a back-up inventory of all critical equipment to ensure that there will never be a delay in processing samples in the event of equipment failure. Cryosite’s clean rooms are fitted with proximity locks, CCTV, environmental monitoring, temperature and humidity control, as well as a dedicated back up power supply.
Long-term Storage Facility
The processed cord blood samples are stored in liquid nitrogen tanks that are housed in a specially designed cryogenic storage room. The tanks are operated in the vapour-phase mode so that there is no potential for cross-contamination. All tanks are connected to dual environmental monitoring and alarm systems and can be accessed and operated remotely. The system operates automatically to ensure that the liquid nitrogen is kept the specified level.
The processing laboratories and long-term storage area have the following security systems to ensure complete protection of the samples:
• Power supply. The power supply is secured through a number of measures, including, dual, independent mains power supply from the main gird, and a 440KVa diesel generator that is able to provide continuous power to the entire facility with 5 seconds of a power interruption.
• UPS. All critical equipment, including security systems, environmental monitoring and alarm systems, servers and computers are connected to a UPS system, so that there is no loss of data or alarm monitoring capability if the power supply is interrupted.
• Security Systems. All areas are continuously monitored by two, independent security systems. The premises are also monitored by night vision CCTV and by regular foot-patrol officers.
• Access Control. Access to the premises and the individual work areas is strictly controlled and monitored by use of proximity cards.
